In 2010 We're Celebrating 10 Years of Peacing It Together!
School segregation in the United States is currently at the same level as it was in 1969, the year after Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated. Our children continue to grow up surrounded by stereotypes, often with little or no exposure to those different from themselves. This dangerous situation breeds fear, feeding prejudice and hatred, which in turn fuel violence and further segregation. The Mosaic Project works to break this cycle.
Research shows that we start to exhibit prejudice between 2˝ and 8 years old. Unlike any other organization of which we are aware, The Mosaic Project, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, profoundly reaches children in elementary school before prejudice can become entrenched. We unite students of diverse backgrounds in our unique human-relations outdoor school. We provide them with essential skills to thrive in an increasingly diverse society, and empower them to strive for peace.
We create a microcosm of the diverse, inclusive, just world we want to see and show our young students that peace is possible.
